Frank Jordan was a long time resident of Wellington Street here in the South End. He loved Boston, was passionate about the South End, and was devoted to his neighborhood and the Claremont Neighborhood Association, where he served as an officer and Board member for decades. With his signature black Stetson hat, he could be seen on a daily basis, walking and greeting neighbors. As an early pioneer in the South End, he was dedicated to preserving the history and architecture of the area, and was one of the concerned citizens who effectively blocked the above-ground highway system, over what is now the Southwest Corridor Park. Thanks to Frank Jordan and other concerned residents who lobbied hard and tirelessly, we now have a beautiful public park space, with community gardens, instead of a massive highway running through our neighborhood. In honor of Frank and his commitment to the neighborhood, the Claremont Neighborhood Association created the Frank Jordan Community Service Award, an award granted to neighbors who have dedicated time and shown an extraordinary commitment to the neighborhood and maintaining the quality of life here.
